by Jeff CIark A young Hawaiian needs your kōkua. Twelve-year-old Ānuenue Kauo has severe aplastic anemia, a form of leukemia. She was living in Alaska, but qualified for assistance from the Make A Wish Foundation, whieh grants wishes to terminally ill chiidren. Her wish was to eome back to Hawai'i, have a lū'au and go shopping. She is now living on the island of Hawai'i. When diagnosed last February, it was estimated Ānuenue had two years to live. Her doctors say her only ehanee of survival is to have a bone-marrow transplant, and the transplant has a better ehanee of success if it comes from someone with Hawaiian blood. If you wouId like to undergo the simple test to determine whether you would make a compatib!e donor for Ānuenue or other patients needing transplants, contact Rose Lee at St. Francis Hospital's Hawai'i Bone Marrow Registry, 2228 Liliha St., Room 201, Hon. 96817. The phone number is 524-6619. Also, funds ean be donated through the same plaee.
