Apuna Still Focusing On Hawaiian Health In New UH Position
Samuel "Kamuela" Apuna, Jr., Office of Hawaiian Affairs Health Education and Human Service Officer, has resigned to take a position in the research department of the School of Public Health at the University of Hawai'i, starting in February. His work will focus on Hawaiian initiatives in the field of health, and will include some teaching next fall.
Apuna, who has worked for OHA for the past seven years, is a member of OHA's original staff, having started with the organization in 1981 as a planner. Prior to that, he worked as chief planner for the Office of Human Resources for the City and County. His education background includes a B.A. in Psycholoqy from UH, an M.A. in business
from Webster University and a PhD in business from Western Kennedy University. Apuna feels that one of his major accomplishments while at OHA was to promote a greater focus on OHA's part in creating programs to address the problem of Hawaiian health.
